The color of friendship is golden.
András Boda, captain of Mahjong Hungary, in 2006 reported for the European Mahjong Association (EMA) about the Golden Dragon Tournament. This is his report.

Nijmegen, a middle-sized Dutch city: a very special place for many mahjong-player in Europe and also in the world: the Open European Mahjong Championship in 2005 was held here. It should be just a calm report with the facts of the Golden Dragon tournament, which was organized for the 8th time this year – but I can't (and I think I don't have to) hide my feelings, which are come up every time I enter to Nijmegen… And I'm sure not alone.

I think it can be no question that a team – leaded by Martin Rep and Sjef Strik – which in 2005 made OEMC in a very high level, may not have any problem to conduct a ‘smaller’ competition easily. That happened last November, when they followed first time the Official International Rules, and also this year: they could manage every single problem – and there wasn't many, or at least not visible or perceptible for us, players.

Martin and Sjef acted also as referees: as far as I know and heard only some cases they were called, and they could solve every problem… The scoring forms were transparent (another color for every round), simple, the projecting of the results were continuous and clear too…

It was quite fine for me, that there were markedly less talking as before – seems that all understood well, how disturbing noise is, and which misunderstandings can generate talking… In the last round – when all were a bit more tired – perhaps it was more noisy, but there were mostly laughing I heard. And this laughing expressed the mood of the whole event well: though the Golden Dragon was (and always is) a tough competition (from all over Europe, 8 country's, among them also Sweden, 115 well-skilled player and me :-), and for the Dutch players a qualification event for Copenhagen), friendship and good mood was the keyword of the whole event.
